Meet Helmut Wiebe: 20+ Years Developing Elite Goalkeepers
From the fields of Paraguay to the training grounds of Vancouver, Helmut is now coaching in Winnipeg, bringing over 20 years of elite goalkeeper experience. Since launching HW Goalkeeping in 2002, he has coached goalkeepers from grassroots to elite youth levels. In 2011, he expanded his coaching into the BC Soccer Premier League, working within British Columbia’s top youth environment to help develop high-performance keepers. The goalkeepers he has mentored consistently move into elite pathways, earning places with the BC Provincial Teams, the Vancouver Whitecaps Academy, Vancouver FC, Vancouver Rise, the National Training Centre, and university team placements across Canada and the United States.
Helmut’s mission is simple: to help goalkeepers grow, excel, and fall in love with the game—just as he has for his entire life.

- South Delta United, Head of Goalkeeper Development (2016-2025)
- Coastal FC, Head of Goalkeeping (2019-2024)
- Whitecaps FC Goalkeeper Pro-Series Camp (2014-2018)
- Tsawwassen Soccer Club, Head of Goalkeeper Development (2007-2016)

Our Coaching Philosophy
At HW Goalkeeping, our philosophy is to create a training environment that is both challenging and enjoyable. We believe in developing complete goalkeepers—not just technically and tactically, but also physically, mentally, and in their lifestyle habits.
Our sessions are more than just drills; they’re opportunities to learn, think, and grow. Each exercise connects to the real demands of the game, encouraging decision-making, game awareness, and leadership while building confidence, resilience, and a genuine passion for the position.
Every session is structured yet personalized, ensuring each goalkeeper is guided toward reaching their full potential. Our motto, “Confidence in Goal. Skills for Life.” reflects our commitment to helping goalkeepers succeed on the field and in life beyond the game.
